WOMEN
IN POLICING

OUR STORY
The Irving Police Department is committed to providing outstanding career opportunities for women. Since 1974, these dedicated women, mothers, and wives have been an integral part of the Irving Police Department team, bringing dedication, honor, and compassion to their work.
Their presence not only increases the representation of women in law enforcement but also strengthens the ability of departments to connect with and serve diverse communities. Through their contributions, women in policing inspire future generations to pursue leadership roles in law enforcement, making a powerful impact on both their communities and the profession as a whole.

LT. KIM WILLIAMS
I began my career with the Irving Police Department in August 2002. From the start, the department felt welcoming, and I quickly became part of the Irving Police family. Throughout my career, I’ve served as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant in the patrol division. I've spent a decade in special investigations, working vice/narcotics, doing undercover work, and contributing to a federal organized crime task force. I've also led the Professional Standards Section and am currently the lieutenant over Tactical Sections, overseeing the Fugitive Apprehension, Gang, K9, SWAT, and Bomb units.
Over 22 years, I’ve learned the importance of balancing professional and personal life, which can be challenging due to the demands of shift work. Supportive family and friends are essential in this line of work. Police work is deeply rewarding, and the Irving Police Department is a wonderful place to build a career.

SRO SHAYNA BECERRA
Throughout high school and college, I was an active member of the Irving Police Explorer Post #252. The program gave me firsthand experiences that solidified my interest in law enforcement and my desire to serve in Irving. The department’s reputation and career advancement opportunities made it my top choice. In May of 2016, I began my career with the Irving Police Department, starting as a patrol officer for four years before transferring to the Community Service Division as a School Resource Officer. I serve as an enforcer, protector, educator, mentor, and, most importantly, a friend to our community’s youth.
Entering a male-dominated field may seem daunting, but I can confidently say that women are needed and valued in law enforcement, especially at Irving PD. Over the last eight years, I’ve seen countless girls light up when they see a female officer.
My parents, husband, and daughters are my biggest supporters. It is possible to have a successful career and a family.

INV. CAROLYN MONSON
I started with Irving Police Department in January 2016 after serving with the United States Army on active duty for six years. I chose to apply with the Irving Police Department because of the professionalism within the officers and the high standards sought from their applicants.
I recently transferred to the Domestic Violence/Child Abuse Section as a Child Abuse Detective at the Family Advocacy Center. I am a mother first and a cop second, but both take dedication and diligence on and off the streets. Balancing work and home life takes a chain of support and family but it’s all worth it to be a hero in my kids’ eyes and making a difference within the City of Irving.

OFFICER MIRNA MONTENEGRO
I began my career with the Irving Police Department in May 2023. I grew up in Irving and knew that this was the only department I wanted to apply for. Once I graduated high school I applied to work as a Detention Officer, which helped me gain a lot of experience with my communication skills. While working in the Jail I was also working on my bachelor’s degree and graduated from UNT Dallas in 2022.
Before, during, and after being hired I have had nothing but positive interactions with everyone here and haven’t felt out of place. I currently work North Patrol Division, and it has been so much fun. Since I am new to patrol, I ask questions about everything, and everyone has been so helpful with guiding me and teaching me as I go.
The shift work and hours can be challenging initially, but finding a balance between my professional and personal life has been a continuous journey. I have enjoyed the work hours because it allows for more free time for my hobbies. All in all, this has been such a rewarding career and I knew Irving PD was the right choice.

OFFICER BETHANY VIDAURRI
Since joining the Irving Police Department in December 2019, I’ve had the privilege of growing in a range of roles, from patrol officer to my current position as an Investigator in our Real-Time Crime Center. My journey since I started has included working as a backup public information officer, contributing to recruitment efforts, and engaging in community service events that connect us with the public.
With almost a decade in public service, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and rewards of this profession. The department has been a supportive environment that uplifts women in law enforcement, providing the resources to help me and my peers succeed in our careers. Joining means working for a department that genuinely values police officers, empowering us all to make a difference together.
